Descrizione del progetto
The main aim of the research project is the study of the large-scale environments of two populations of radio-loud active galaxies: BL Lac objects and radio galaxies. During the first year we initially focused on several cases of individual radio galaxies, namely: 3CR 17, 3CR 187, 3CR 196.1. For all of them we investigated the environment and its properties comparing radio, optical and X-ray images. In particular, thanks to follow up optical observations we discovered a galaxy cluster surrounding 3CR 17 confirmed by our X-ray analysis (Figure 1), while for 3CR 187 we showed that the di use X-ray emission is due to inverse Compton scattering of seed photons arising from the Cosmic Microwave Background
