BESIII-Torino (Experimental Particle Physics)
BESIII is a general-purpose detector based at the Beijing electron-positron collider (BEPCII) at the IHEP laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing (PRC).
BEPCII is designed to operate in the beam energy range 1-2.3 GeV.
Recentely it achieved the design luminosity of 1×10^33cm-2s-1.
The BESIII detector is designed to take advantage of this high luminosity to do light hadron spectroscopy, study charmonia and open charm decays, investigate electroweak and strong physics at the charm scale, and search for new physics. Since 2008, the world's largest samples of J/Psi, Psi' and Psi'' were collected.
About 350 physicists from 50 institutions based in 11 countries, including China, the USA, Italy, and other European and Asian countries, are participating in the BESIII Experiment, Among the large amount of physics results, the recent Z_c mesons discovery is of great importance.
Such mesons have been observed both as charged and neutral charmonium-like states and they cannot be explained with the simple quark-antiquark paradigm opening to many exotic explanations.
The Torino Group is involved in the physics analysis of the data, in the Cloud Computing developement and in CGEM-it project. A Cylindrical GEM detector is being currently developed to be installed in BESIII in 2018. The Torino group is mainly involved in the development of a custom ASIC for CGEM readout.
